Dear Philippe,
I was so happy to hear from you about our name in common, Bourcy. Napoleon was my paternal great grandfather. I have had very little luck in finding any information about him, so anything you can do to help me would be greatly appreciated.
Napoleon was born around 1842 in either France or Canada. I recently learned, from his second marriage certificate that his parents names were Louis Bourcy and Julia Bellar, both from France. In an IGI Record, I found Louis Auguste Napoleon Donatien Jacobin Bourcy, christened 16 Mar 1803, in Logny-Bogny, Ardennes,France. I suspect that this could be Napoleon's father, but I have no proof of this.
Napoleon married Elizabeth Joslin around 1863 in Vermont. Elizabeth's parents were also from France, but I haven't found their names. Napoleon and Elizabeth had 6 children. Harry(1864 in VT), Josephine(1866 in VT), Louis(1870 in MO), Frederick(1874 in KS), William(1878 in KS) and George(1879 in KS). Elizabeth died in 1885 in Denver,CO and Napoleon married Jennie May Craig in 1886 in New York City. From that point I have found no more information about Napoleon, who I neglected to tell you was a shoemaker.
I would be especially interested to know where his family was from in France and hope you can help me discover this.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely, Mary Phares
