Thank you for your email regarding the "Bourcy" and "de Bourcy" families. My birth family was called DeBourcy and it was only recently that I discovered that my ancestors were known by the name Bourcy. I'm not sure how this happened, but my grandfather, William Bourcy, known as Guy, was orphaned at the age of 7 in Denver, CO. His oldest brother was Henry D. Bourcy and if he placed the younger children in an orphanage, it might be possible that Guy Bourcy became known as Guy DeBourcy. This is all a guess, but as good an explanation as I can come up with.
Guy's parents were Napoleon and Elizabeth Joslin Bourcy. According to information I have gathered, both Napoleon and Elizabeth's parents were born in France, but I have no idea where. Napoleon's parents were Louis Bourcy and Julia Bellar. I have no information on Elizabeth Joslin's parents.
I know nothing about the origin of the names Bourcy or de Bourcy. Do you know if they were interchangeable or not? Would you be able to see if any of my names appear on your family tree?
Thank you for any help or information you can give me.
Mary DeBourcy Phares
