F. A. Scothorne Dead.
The death of F. A. Scothorne, for many years a resident of Paola and Miami co., occurred
Thursday, the 14th inst., at the Leavenworth soldiers home. His death was sudden and was
caused by cerebral hemorrhage of the brain.
Mr. Scothorne was a native of Ohio, born at Circleville March 17, 1837. He was married
there to his surviving wife, whose maiden name was Josephine Kennard. From Ohio they moved
to Jackson co., Missouri, where they resided several years, coming to Paola about twenty-five
years ago. Mr. Scothorne was an honest, hard-working man and a good citizen. Several years
ago he became broken in health and went to the soldiers’ home. During the civil war he served
in Co. C 155th Ohio infantry. He was a member of McCaslin Post G.A.R. and of the A. O. U. W.
The remains were brought to Paola, arriving Saturday, and were taken to the home of his
son-in-law, L. T. Bradbury, from where the funeral services, conducted by Rev. Handy, pastor of
the Congregational church and in charge of McCaslin post, were held Sunday afternoon.
With his wife he is survived by four sons and three daughters, Mrs. J. C. Pickering of
Coffeyville, Mrs. C. W. Werst of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. L. T. Bradbury, Frank, Dee, Clarence,
and Thomas Scothorne of Paola, also two brothers residing in Ohio.
