Henry Barricklow one of founders of Baker Unv to be honored
Henry Barricklow, one of the founder's of Baker Unv., will be honored in a tree planting ceremony at Baker Univ Sept 28 at 1:30 PM in front of the Old Castle Museum on Baker's campus. The tree will be a Burr Oak symbolic of the Signal Oak which had been located on his land during the Civil War and before KS entered the union as a free state this 150 yr old tree was used in conjunction with Mount Oread and Blue Mount to warm residences of both Lawrence and Baldwin City of the approach of Missouri Ruffians.Lanterns were used to do this signaling.Everyone is welcome to attend these festivities. There will be talks by some of Baker'sprofessors and even Baker's president, performance by Baker's speech choir of a letter written in 1908by Sarah Barricklow Lovejoy, one of Henry's daughter. Barricklow, Lovejoys, Peasleys, Lottons, Frames, Frys, and other families related to the Barricklows are invited to take part in the acual planting of the tree. You are asked to bring a small quantity of soil. Please gather this dirt from around your residence. We don't want store bought top soil. The idea is to have dirt from all over to plant Henry's tree. There will be some of Henry's things on display tools, personal items, pic etc. The Old Castle Museum will be open.
