William H. Tate was born iin 1813 in Green County, Tennessee, son of Zachariah Tate and Elizabeth Doan. They moved to Orange County, Indiana. He married Indiana Kemble there in 1836. She died in January 1862. He was distraught and joined the Union Army in February, but was discharged for being too old to serve in June that year. He was in Orange County, Indiana, in 1870, but by 1875 he had homesteaded in Republic County, Kansas, where he is listed on the 1875 Kansas State Census That is the last place I knew he resided. It is not known where he died, perhaps in Republic County, or in Reno County where he also had family living. Can someone help me solve this problem—he is not on Find A Grave
