Mike -

Thanks for the hard work. This side of my family is very hard to research.

My father is an American Indian with an original name of Marquard Kohl (Charlie Kohl / Charlie Smaltz) was adopted by the Smaltz's. The only document I have is an original copy of a court order from Department of Interior taking him from the reservation.

Folklore - Jessie Roberta Bowen (Father Iverson Bowen) was married and her husband was killed in a train wreck. She the decided to become a nun but ended up becoming a Nurse and working as a missionary. I found a nursing pin in my mothers belongings from St. Joseph's Hospital with the name Jessie Allen written upon it. She married Alex Jacob Smaltz in order to adopt a child she felt sorry for (Charlie). This fact does not jive as it appears by the 1930 census they were married before he was taken from the reservation in 1932. Maybe it was just a timing issue. My father said it was a very dysfunctional family and he does not recall talking to his father more than once or twice.

I did find Jessie's Death Certificate and also recently found the death certificate for Albert (his younger brother) who lived with him in a boarding house in 1920. I am still trying to find her Father's place and date of death - hoping to find his death certificate to lead me further on understanding his father and mother's name.

Again thanks for the research you have done.

Jim
