Hello,

I am looking for grandparents/siblings/any other info on my grandfather, James Richard Davis.

Here is most of the info I have on my Grandfather:

Born on October 23. SSDI has the year at 1908, his SS5 lists the year as 1907 and between bibles, baby books and wedding books, the years are listed as 1906 and 1907.

His SS5 (dated 1936) lists his place of birth as Fort Dodge, Ford County, Kansas, but to my knowledge the city was called Dodge City at the time. I have gone through the microfilm of the County Clerks records for Ford County, Births, deaths, and marriages, 1905-1911, but I found no record of birth for my grandfather or marriage of his parents.

James married Eleanor Jean Wright (from Elmira, Chemung County, NY) on 28 Apr 1939. They were married in Erie PA at First Methodist Episcopal Church by Minister Bruce S. Wright (no relation to Grandma).

Lived in Buffalo then moved to Niagara Falls, and had two children, Richard Lewis and Dorothy Jean

His SSN was issued in Elmira NY, and Richard was born in Niagara. Then they moved to Miami, FL then to Elmira NY where they lived till the 70s? then moved to Bonita Springs FL where he died in March 1984

I don’t know when he left Kansas, or why or where he went to. I know before he married Eleanor he lived in Chicago, I don’t know when or for how long. I've poured over census records, but with the exception of Ford County, KS and Chemung Co. NY, I'm not sure where to look.

He never spoke to me, my father or to my grandmother (in front of my father) about his life before he married my grandmother, nor did she tell anyone anything if he told her.

His SS5 lists his parents as Henry James Davis and his mother as Mary Elizabeth Turnidge (but again, in family books the name was spelled differently as Turnage and Turnidge).

Hoping someone has stumbled across his name, any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated. If not, even a suggestion on how to get passed this point would be helpful

Thanks
Greg Davis
