No apology necessary. I also have been directed to Wetmore Cemetery for Samuel's stone, and like you, have not received indication that Mary Ann is included on it. What I have received lately is a "copy" of Michael Hittle's (1776-1855) "will" in which he names "Maryann" as one of his children to receive an equal share of the children's rights. There are no surprises in the roster of his children. My question in regard to what I have is that it was dated in 1845 and declares Michael to be of Rush County, Indiana. Yet, in visiting the Clerk's office there, I found no reference to any such will. That's understandable since Michael died in Monroe County, Iowa. However, I have also visited both the Clerk's office and the Genealogical Society there and have found no reference to a Michael Hittle probate in Monroe County, either. That leads me to several questions about what I have received: a) When and where did this "document" come to light? b) Why wasn't it executed in Monroe County? c) If it was executed, again, where? d) If not exectuted, where did it reside until it came to light? e) Is it still extant today? f) Where is it if still extant? It does list all 12 children as commonly accepted in gedcoms. It does not list any other children other than the 12 commonly accepted in gedcoms. It does seem to make a distinction between the first 3 and the last nine children. It does name "Lidea" as the Executrix of the will. So, if this is indeed a copy of Michael's wishes in 1845, it seems to establish that Michael and Lydia were still in Rush County, Indiana at that date, and not as early as 1843 when Kishkekosh land (late named Monroe County) was first made available to white settlement. Since the Monroe County land acquisition documents of Michael Sr, Michael Jr, Jacob, Isaac, Hartsel, John, and Abalena are dated 1848, we have a three year window in regard to the timing of when the move from Indiana to Iowa was made. That the "Kintons" are found virtually next door to Michael and Lydia in the 1850 census further draws the net as to the accuracy of Mary Ann (Hittle) Kenton/Kinton being their daughter. I have not checked the Recorder's office in Monroe County for Kenton/Kinton deed records, but the others that I have named are definitely there, and seemingly accurately reported by the computer readouts at the Iowa Genealogical Society in Des Moines. The more I "know" the more I realize that I don't know, so a trip back to Albia to check on the Kentons should add to that situation. :-) I have not yet made it over to NE Kansas. I may be able to get there in the near future, and would definitely love to accomplish that before Memorial Day. Let me know when you make it this way. Sandy and I can always make lunch/supper plans if it fits your schedule. I'd love to find Mary Ann, and Elizabeth (Hittle) (Brownlee) Findley. Both have to be in NE Kansas, someplace. Hoping something in here helped! Joe Notify Administrator about this message?
