My mother and her father always kept clippings from the newspaper. I am posting them in hopes that they will help someone. When I turned this clipping over the dates were from early February 1945. In the old, black and white photo, he probably had dark hair and fair complexion. Bertram Lavant Nunn, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Nunn of Wichita, Kan., and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. (Wes) Nunn of Buffalo, lost his life in action aboard the tanker Neches Tuesday night, February 2, when it went down at sea. He was a baker second class in the Navy, aboard the torpedoed ship. Nunn was born February 15, 1921, in Coldwater, Kan. He is a graduate of Pittsburg, Kan. high school where he was active in school sports and work in the Christian church before he joined the Navy. He enlisted December 5, 1938, and went to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station from Joplin. He received a letter in football and track while attending high school. He is survived by his parents and a brother and sister. The brother, Loyal Wade Nunn, 25, is with the 74th Division, U.S. Army Engineers, Camp Funston, Ft. Riley Kan., and his sister, Thora Faye Nunn, 24 is a teacher in the high school at Charity, Mo. His other grandparent surviving is E.A. Case of El Dorado, Kan. His father is a native of Dallas County and is with the Borden Company, with Wichita his headquarters. Notify Administrator about this message?
