I'm not sure about the year 1940 but these days any death that occurs in central KS, the obit usually appears in the Hutchinson and/or Wichita newspaper(s). Microfilm of both newspapers can be obtained from the KS State Historical Society via interlibrary loan program. http://www.kshs.org/library/news.htm Unfortunately an online index of Sedgwick County obits provided by the Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society in Wichita begins at 1955 but maybe they have earlier ones that aren't listed online... http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/mhgs/ You could also try for a death certificate. Just fill in as many blanks on the application form that you possibly can. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment normally searches within ten years of the approximate year of death http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/vital/ Notify Administrator about this message?
