Archibald Wiggins, Wyandotte County, 1870

My grgrgrandfather, Archibald Wiggins, and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Wyandotte County, near Edwardsville (I think) in 1869. They had three children living at home in the 1870 census: Margaret, 17, George, 7, and Josephine, 2. Archibald was 55, so I can accept that he may have died before 1880, but ALL of them disappear after that. except George. Archibald wasn't a renter, but owned his farm, and was fairly well off. But, after 1870, there is no trace of any member of the family (except George). Did Kansas keep death records before 1880? Was there a plague, or flu epidemic, during the 1870's that could have wiped out a whole family? George, in 1880, had moved to live with his much older sister in southwest MO. What could have happened to the others??

Thanks.
