You probably have this info by now, considering when you left this message; if not, perhaps this will help.
Alfred and Mary are listed on 3 US Census' together. Their children, including "Emmie" are listed with them on the first census: 1900. "Hortense" is listed (w/ Alfred) in 1900, 1910 and 1920. Alfred is listed again (at age 71) on the 1930 census - at this time he has a new wife who is only 22 years old. On all census' they seem to be living in the same house in Horton, KS. Alfred and Mary immigrated to the US in 1885 and, seemingly, were married in the same year. Alfred is listed as a "gunsmith" and "machinist". Tanya, if you are their grandchild (via Emmie), maybe you can help me. Did Alfred have a sister, Cecile Fete, who came to the US w/ him? Cecile Fete married David Cornelius Ryan in Horton, KS, in 1886. According to the Census' Alfred was born Oct, 1858; Mary Hortense b. June, 1857. Cecile was born in June, 1865, so she was 7 years younger than Alfred. The family story is that she came about the same time Alfred and Mary came, to be a governess for some family here. If Alfred and Cecile were bro/sis, and came from the same place in Switzerland, were they Huguenots? You may email me direct. Tim Beckham. tbeckham@webpups.com
