Dear Eileen: How we love all the twists and turns...! Before I answer your notes, I'll give a quick outline of our tree for reference. My husband is CHRISTOPHER TODD WEDDLE b.9-6-55, is the son of ALFRED TRUMAN WEDDLE b.7/28/32, and SHARON SUE THOMPSON. Alfred's parents were MARTIN CECIL (Cecil Martin?) WEDDLE b.4/12/1897 d.1/11/54, and CLARABEL IOWA TUFFORD b.5/4/09, d.5/2/99. She was born to ALFRED HERBERT TUFFORD, and DOLA MAUDE HARBOUR, (both?) b.1883. ("Cecil"'s name is written both ways in different places in Grandma's notes.) Continuing the Harbour connection: LDS FRC microfilm shows "MAUDIE DOLA" HARBOUR was born to THOMAS JACKSON HARBOUR and MARY ELLEN SOWARDS COFFMAN. (Back to the Weddle's): Cecil's parents were TRUMAN HARRISON WEDDLE b.1/1/1864, d.5/24/1927, and DORABELL CHESNUT b.3/9/1867, d.1/20/1941. A scrap of info I have indicates Dorabell was b.1867 in Amizona, MO. (Was that a city or county???) Truman H.'s parents were TRUMAN WEDDLE and MARY J. SPICER, both born in 1833. Dorabell's parents were Leesel and Mary J. The cemetery had a large number of Chesnut family branches, and I will dig out what I have. My husband's grandma, Clarabel b.5/4/09, d.5/2/99) provided the first info we had on the WEDDLE, CHESNUT, TUFFORD AND HARBOUR families. According to her Chesnut notes, "LEECIL" Chesnut was married to DELILAH, maiden name unknown. As I mentioned earlier, our cemetery visit gave the clear impression that "LEESIL" was married to Mary J., maiden name unknown. I thought it was interesting that Mary J. was that name of both of my husband's ggrandmothers. Were the stones put up some time after the fact? Is it possible there was a mistake? Or was Grandma Weddle's memory a little hazy? Mary Coffman is another fine kettle of fish. ^_^ Our notes from Grandma W. list MARY ELLEN COFFMAN as the wife of THOMAS JACKSON HARBOUR, grandmother to Clarabel. My research at the LDS Family Research Center in SLC, show Mary Ellen SOWARDS (SEWARDS?) Coffman to be the dau. of WILLIAM ARTHUR COFFMAN and ? Sowards. Family lore says Mary Ellen was "full-blood Mohawk Indian", and Clarabel, her oldest son, and my husband, and our daughter all bear physical evidence to substantiate the claim. Is it a different Mary Coffman? In the context of my research, it's awfully coincidental for her name to pop up with Leesel's. My time is up today, I'll try to get back to you tomorrow. I certainly hope there's something in this mish-mash that is helpful! -Carol ^_^ Notify Administrator about this message?
