This is going to shock you. Someone sure gave your husband wrong info. I searched for a long time for the name you requested. I was about to give up when I re-read your posting. I decided to search for Florence Harrison; wife of the younger William. Well, well. Would you believe that her father's name was Loftus Harrison? Somehow names got mixed up during the family research.. The 1880 census info you received today was certainly correct. William, not Loftley was the name of your husband's ancestor. Someone sure sent you down the wrong path. Here is the census info for 1900 in Iowa: 1900 census - Crystal Twp., Tama Co. IA, 2 June 1900, enum. dist. 134, page 65 Harrison, Loftus M., born May 1862, 38; married 15 yrs., born in IL, father in ENG and mother in IL.; he was a tile ditcher (??????) Luella, April 1868, 32, 7 children with 7 living. IA CAN IL All children born in Iowa Clarence, Sep. 1886, 13 Jesse, Dec. 1888, 11 Florence, Jan. 1891, 9 Aggie, Jan. 1893, 7 Maggie same Ellsworth, Feb. 1900, 3 mos. ---------------- Geneseo Twp., Tama Co. IA, Enum. dist. 129, page 7A., 13 June 1900 Withrow, William, born Feb. 1876, 24, IL IL IL farmer Withrow, Joseph, March 1879, 21, KS IL IL " ------------ The above tells me that Joseph was the unnamed child in the 1880 KS census. ---------------- I think William was the son of William, a pioneer, in Sangamon Co. IL ------------------ I have not found William born about 1838 in any census. The one in Sangamon was 15, not 12 in 1850. Maybe the 1880 census was incorrect. The young wife may not have known the true age of her husband. -------------- I will delve further, if you like. I spend many hours a week helping others with their searches. Keeps my mind active.
