Seeking Info on Phillip Bowsman

I realize that this is a rather "long shot", but what do I have to loose. I am seeking whatever information I can about my great-grandfather, Phillip Bowsman. His relationship to Kansas is only that he was murdered somewhere in the state around 1881. Phillip was born about 1846 in Kentucky and was living around Pulaski Co, MO with wife, Johanna Nelson Bowsman and infant son John A. Bowsman. All I have on him on the family history is that he and companion were murdered for their bag of gold returning from Pike's Peak.

Kansas is a big state, but I thought that someone might have stumbled upon such a tale. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.
