Ely (Eli) Jones, born 20 November 1806 in Tennessee and died 11 September 1893 in Manhattan, Kansas. His wife Eleanor (whose last name is not known to me) was born 27 November 1811 and died 15 September 1893. Both were born in Tennessee. They had 5 children: Julia Caroline, William, May, Louisa, and Nancy Jane. From the information I have, the Jones family left Tennessee and settled in Morristown, Missouri where Nancy Jane was born 19 September 1841. Nancy Jane married Julius Wilson Paul of Freeman, Missouri and moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1861.
The 1880 Census lists Ely as divorced and living with daughter Louisa and husband Edwin Dunn in Cass County, Missouri. Nothing is heard about Eleanor until her death four days after Ely´s death... both in Manhattan, Kansas four days apart. Julius Wilson Paul writes in a letter the causes of death of, “...grandpa and grandma Jones....” It´s all a mystery to me.
I would like to know is what happened to Ely and Eleanor. Did they really divorce? If so, did she remarry? I am searching for information regarding my gggrandparents, Ely and Eleanor Jones. If any of this information sounds slightly familiar, please contact me. Thank you. Lisa
