I am looking for information on Rosanna Fagan and Sir Thomas Godfrey. What I know from old letters is Sir Thomas Godfrey was an officer in the Brittish army who was stationed in Ireland. He met, fell in love with, and married a farmer's daughter, Rosanne Fagan of Lisborne, Deriagby. (Research seems to show this to be Lisburn, Derryaghy in Antrim.)His family was furious, cutting him off, they "Being of high standing." He was then given a yearly stipend to live on, which ended on his death. She was catholic, he protestant, which was a huge bone of contention for the Godfreys. They had three sons, Hamilton, William, and ????, from what I can tell. The three boys were offered a bought commission into the Brittish army by his family if they would convert to protestantism, having been raised Catholic. Then the letters go into money being left and who is the rightful inheritor. The names of a Hamilton of Scotland come up, as do a George Godfrey of Neury. Then a second George, a Major Godfrey, of Woodbank of Neury. I don't know if they are one and the same or not. Warnings are given about the Godfreys in Kansas, and a Mr. Hall, who claim to be closer in line but are from female descendents. Letters were written between Katy Godfrey, Sioux City, Iowa, (written for her by Wm Maurice Godfrey) to her cousin Alice Josephine Godfrey/Lowe in Brooklyn, NY. Dated 1907 and 1908. Alice J Godfrey/Lowe came over from Ireland about 1887 with her husband Francis Lowe, and their six children, George G, Francis, John, Joseph E, Leo, (real name of Patrick), and Thomas D. They then had William, (my grandfather), and Alice, both born in NY. There is a little more in the letter also. If anyone recognizes part of this story or any of the people it would be appreciated. Thanks, Deb
