Is Indiana a surprise? I have a bio. that said he "was reared and educated" in Indiana. I own an orginal 1883 "History Of Kansas" by Cutler. Sanford's bio. is in the Center Township portion(pg.408) of the Atchinson County chapter. I condensed it to the following: Sanford Jarrell, Post Office-Monrovia. Sanford was born Buckingham, N.C., 9 March 1835. He came to Ks. in 1857 (ca.age 22), and claimed land in Jackson Co., Ks. (He should be in 1860 Ks. Terr. census). In 1861 (ca. age 26) he enlisted as a corporal in Company E. 2nd Ks. Cavalary. He was discharged a sergeant. He served 3yrs. 3 mo.s. In 1865 (ca.age 30), he married Miss Annie Fletcher, daughter of James Fletcher, a "early Kansan". Sanford & Annie had 2 children (per 1880-82 data) John F. & Mary M. You should find him in the 1865, 1870, 1875, & 1880( and latter?) censuses of State of Kansas.
