There was never a place called "Cedar." "North Cedar" and "South Cedar" were post offices that served the two communities that arose on or near the banks of North Cedar and South Cedar Creeks. The town of Denison, established in 1887, replaced the community name of "North Cedar," and the area churches, which had been known under the name of North Cedar, all changed their names. The North Cedar Cemetery, just south of present-day Denison, the earliest burying ground in the region, was chartered under the name North Cedar Cemetery, but today that has been forgotten as most people call it "South Denison" Cemetery. There was another community called North Cedar, about two miles east of the Jackson Co. line, in Jefferson Co., but there is nothing there today to remind you of it. As far as I know, the Jackson Co. boundaries were fixed as of 1857, when the name was changed from Calhoun; originally, the southern boundary was the Kansas River, I think, or perhaps Soldier Creek. The Pottawatomie Indian Reservation comprises a large portion of the center of the county. I hope this is helpful.
