I am trying to determine the death date/death place of Erastus Niles, last seen in 1870 [although some family researchers claim he died in 1864]. 1870 Census, Wauculla Twp, Wichita P.O., Sedgwick Co., KS, p. 63B, Dwelling & Family #3, enumerated 6 Jul 1870: Niles, Erastus, 49, Farmer, Pennsylvania --- Abigail, 44, Keeping House, Connecticut --- Lenora, 15, Without Occupation, Illinois --- Clarence W, 13, Without Occupation, Illinois, Attended School --- Mollie E, 10, Without Occupation, Illinois, Attended School --- George E, 8, At Home, Illinois, Attended School --- Laura L, 3, At Home, Illinois The Niles were living in the household of Erastus' nephew, Cornelius Decker, son of Simeon Decker & Mary Jane Elizabeth Niles. ____________________ Erastus, son of Sanford Niles & Susanna Spooner, was born abt. 1825 and apparently died before 1880 when the census taker found only his widow and two youngest children. The logical assumption is that Erastus died either in Harvey or Sedgwick County. 1880 Census, Sedgwick City, Harvey Co., KS, E.D. #241, p. 522B, Dwelling #26, Family #23, enumerated 1 Jun 1880: Niles, A E, 54, Widow, Keep House, b. Conn, f/b NY, m/b NY --- Laura L, 13, Daughter, At School, b. Ills, f/b Pa, m/b Conn --- George H E, 17, Son, Day Laborer, b. Ills, f/b Pa, m/b Conn ____________________ Any assistance would be appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
