Hi Rita, I got the name Dwyer from Colleen Coleman. My interest is as follows;I was born in Ireland in 1935,the youngest of seven children. In 1960 my father then 70 yrs wrote a list of his ancestors starting with my Gr grandfather Patrick Hyland from Co.Laois B.1814.Pat's siblings were James,Joseph,Mary ,John,Michael,Hannah, Martin and Judith. He stated that all except Patrick went to America.I have traced James and Michael to Lockport,Ill.but have had no success with the rest.Of my grandfathers generation ,four of his siblings also emigrated and I have traced Margaret to Paterson NJ.This was a recent discovery.I then found on the Ellis Island website another Margaret,an American citizen, living in Paterson but born in Lockport,Ill. and still living in 1915.Coincidence? Maybe.I searched through the 1880 US census and found your Maggie and her siblings in Kansas but some were born in Illinois.Your John Hyland then came in through Colleens messages.
I have a cd-rom of Griffiths Valuation of Ireland which I use, when the names of husband and wife are known as most couples were near neighbours before they married.I found a John Hyland in Main St,Borris in Ossory,Laois .This in 1849.Further up the Street, was the home of John Dwyer.Another coincidence. When I next visit my daughter in London, I will check out John and Mary's marriage certificate at the records office, they were wed in Stepney according to Colleen.
I also intend to get the birth certificate of the Mystery Margaret from the records office in Joliet,Illinois. She may well have been a daughter of one of Patricks other brothers. It may be just food for thought but thats all I've got.Be good to yourself.Bill.
