Thank you so much for your offer to do this lookup for me! However, on a trip eastward, we stopped at what is left of Ft. Harker and found that the cemetery no longer exists. The remains of all the soldiers who died there were moved to Ft. Leavenworth - in the military cemetery there.

So driving even further east, we stopped at Ft. Leavenworth where I did find Howell McKenney's gravesite. He died on 19 July 1867 - he was 21 yo.
