I'm looking for some leads to
George and Jessie [BLACK] HELM
both originally from Champaign Co IL
George b 1854, Jessie b ~1861
they are in the 1910 census, and in the
1930 census in Denton (ed 22, p 1a)
neighbors:
next to Mary Swartz a widow and Allen Stewart
Mrs Edith Barrand, enumerator (also a neighbor)
house #3 on 3rd st, house numbers not given
They lived in St Joseph, Missouri, late 19-teens - 1921
approx. They are in the 1920 census there.
George is still in the grain buying business at 75,
at the elevator.
I know of at least 3 children, James Helm, Marie Helm
and another called Leah or Saleh? and possibly a fourth,
John. On the 1920 census, Marie is listed as divorced
and is living with her parents.
According to some help from a St Joseph researcher,
Marie Helm m Edward Joyce 12 May 1916. Edward
Joyce listed his home as Severance Doniphan Co KS.
I think I have found him in the 1930 census also
(Severance City, ED 22-16, p 1b)
Jessie's brother Clem BLACK was living with them in 1910
but what happened to him after that is unknown. He
was born about 1855 and died about 1918, and is buried
in Sidney IL. His tombstone has no dates, just the year.
Any leads on this family greatly appreciated. Since James
Helm is single and 33 in the 1930 census entry perhaps
he remained in the area.
