From the Arkansas Daily Traveler, Arkansas City, KS, Wednesday, October 26, 1898, p. 8:
DIED - Night before last, James Madison Calkins, of Silverdale township. Mr Calkins was 71
years of age and died from heart trouble. The funeral was held from the residence at 2 o’clock
this afternoon, Rev F M Peek preaching the sermon. Interment in Parker cemetery.

DIED. – Yesterday, of lung trouble, Mrs. Liza Jane Calkins, aged 65 years. The funeral will be
held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock from Parker school house with interment in Parker
cemetery.
