I just wanted add that I found out that Ellen was actually Sarah Ellen Ridley or Gridley, who was the daughter of Reuben Ridley or Gridley. Reuben married Elizabeth Ryan in Morrill, Brown County. It was supposedly the first marriage in Morrill, according to William G. Cutler's,
History of the State of Kansas, published in 1883. However, Elizabeth is probably not Sarah's mother as Reuben and Elizabeth were married after Sarah was born. So I'm still in search for more information on Sarah, her mother, and Reuben Ridley.

The book I mentioned is a wonderful resource about early Kansas. It was transcribed and is online at the following URL:
