I ran right smack into a brick wall going about 100 mph about a year ago and now Im going to try this again. I have an Ira Cook that was born abt 1856 in OH and d sometime after 1920 in Nebraska. In 1886 he married Malinda Craig daughter of John Craig and Nancy Mackey. Ira and Malinda Cook had three sons before she died at age 27. The sons names were: John David William Samuel Mortica Last January I was given a copy of Ira and Malindas Nebraska Marriage Certificate. On the certificate it states that Ira Cook was born in Ohio and his parents were H Cook and M Scott. Is this Mordecai Hanes Cook and Mary G Scott????? I sure thought so until I was sent a paragraph stating that Ira the son of Mordecai Cook and Mary Scott married in 1885 in Ohio to a Elnora J Hardwick. I have traced the M H Cook Household: 1850 Licking County Ohio Census 1860 Putnam County Ohio Census 1870 Putnam County Ohio Census 1880 Putnam County Ohio Census Ira Cook drops out of the household on the 1880 Census? Where is he? He is not in the household but not yet married to Elnora Hardwick until 1885. Maybe this is him? 1880 Richardson County Nebraska Census Ira W M 24 Boarder S Farmer Cannot Read Cannot Write OH OH OH 1900 Brown County Kansas Census Cook, Ira Head W M Oct 1865 34 W 3 3 OH PA OH Farmer 1920 Dawes County Nebraska Census Ira Father M W 63 W OH OH OH One other tip that really makes me think that my Ira Cook does fit into the Mordecai and Mary Scott Cook Family is the following: Mary G Scotts grandmother was Thankful Rood Scott b 1778 in Canaan CT d 1874 Richardson County Nebraska!!!!!! Seems awful coincidental that Thankful Scott would relocate to Richardson County Nebraska with her daughters family - the same county where her grandson resides???????? Ah yes and please note the name of Ira and Malinda Cooks son Samuel MORTICA!!!!!!! Coincidence???????? I would appreciate any help in this matter!!!!!!!!!! Either confirming my thoughts or prooving that I am wrong!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to hearing from you. Paula Oregon Notify Administrator about this message?
