I have been studying the family of Absolom FLESHER and Malinda TAYLOR. Absolom was the son of William S FLESHER Sr and Mary GUM. From what I have found, Absolom and Malinda had at least 9 children. William Marion, 1845; Martha J, 1848; Catherine, 1852; Clarence F 1855; Louisa C, 1856; George R, 1858; Mary L, 1860: Robert, 1862; and Arinda, 1863.

William Marion married Palmyra, and she applied for a pension on his service, and the last I see of her is in 1930 Elk Co KS census, listed as Myra, age 76. They were in Warren Co IA earlier and William M and James T both served in 47th Regiment, Iowa Infantry (100 days, 1864).
James T. applied for pension in KS and listed as his dependent, Absolom FLESHER, father. I have not found James T. in any census, nor have I found Absolom and Malinda in 1850 or 1860. Absolom Flesher was in Linn Co KS in 1859, according to that state census index. He was in Kansas City KS in 1889 and 1890, living at 878 Lyon.        Absolom is said to have died in 1900 Kansas City, Jackson Co MO.

Just today, I found an obituary for Malinda, listed below.

Fulton Independent, Bourbon Co KS

Oct 8, 1887 pg 3, col 3

Died On Saturday evening, Oct. 1st, at 530 o’clock, at the residence of J. N. Burcham, Mrs. Melinda Flesher, wife of Absalom Flesher, of Wyandotte, Kas. The funeral took place from the M. E. church at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. M. Iliff officiating. The body was interred at the Wright cemetery north of town. Deceased was born at Vandalia, Ill., in 1824, and was at the time of her death in her 64th year. She came with her husband to Wyandotte in the spring of 1885. She leaves nine children - 4 sons and 5 daughters - and a husband to mourn her loss. Two of the daughters, Mrs. J. N. Burcham and Mrs. A. J. Shipman, are residents of this place, an unmarried and two married daughters and three sons reside at Wyandotte, and one son at or near Rhinehardt, Mo. On the 24th of September, Mr. and Mrs. Flesher arrived here on a visit. She was ill when she came, and it was necessary to take her from the train to her daughter’s residence. She gradually grew worse until last Saturday morning, when she seemed much better. On Saturday evening she ate a hearty supper and within ten minutes afterwards she was a corpse. It was supposed to be a case of heart disease. She was more than twenty years a member of the M. E. church. Although medical aid was summoned on her arrival here and everything done that promised relief, and although sympathizing friends and relatives tenderly looked after her comfort and welfare, yet, her Master had summoned her to another field of usefulness and in obedience to His request, she quietly passed from earth’s scenes to the blest abode in the Eternal Kingdom.

From what I have been able to gather, from the names above, Louisa C FLESHER married Andrew J. SHIPMAN, son of Wesley SHIPMAN. This is from that same paper:

Mar 15 1890 pg 2, col 2 Born: To Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Shipman, on Friday [Mar] 7th, a son. Mother and child are doing well.
(I believe that child to be Herbert E SHIPMAN, who registered for WWI in Neosho Co KS, listing his birth as Mar 1890, and he was living with wife and child there in 1920)
I found Louisa and Andrew J in Bourbon and Elk Co KS. Andrew's mother is said to have been Elizabeth BURCHAM, likely kin to the husband of Mary L Flesher.
The SHIPMAN and BURCHAM families stayed near each other and both may have been from Green Co IN.

Absolom and Malinda's son, George R married Andrew's sister, Sarah Jane SHIPMAN in 1877
in Vernon Co MO, and she may have died young, and he married Alice Jane GASTON in Linn Co KS in 1891. These are the places I have found George.
1870 Rochester, Andrew, Missouri (with his parents)
1880 Elmwood, Saline, Missouri
1895 Potosi, Linn Co KS
1900 - Lincoln, Linn, Kansas
1905 Lincoln, Linn
1900 ?
1920 - Valley, Linn, Kansas
1930 La Cygne, Linn, Kansas

Mary L FLESHER married Joseph BURCHAM. They lived in Bourbon Co KS in 1880 and had one dau, Ora E then. By 1900, Joseph, age 46, is widowed, living in ward 5, Kansas City, Wyandotte Co KS, with Ora and four other children, Harry, Alvin, John and Edna, the last born in 1895. All the children are listed as born in IL. In 1910, Joseph listed as Jasper N, is in Jasper Co IL with two youngest children, John and Edna.

John Burcham, born May 1893 registered for WWI in Champaign Co IL, states his father is dependent on his support. John is in Piatt Co IL in 1920 with wife, Elta and one child. In 1930 he is in McLean Co IL, with Elta and 3 children and Agnes L CAMPBELL, sister in law.

Alva H Burcham born Sep 1890, is also registered in the same county, both state they were born in Winterrowd? IL.
Alva has a wife and one child and I find him in 1910 Effingham Co, with wife Grace and one child, and in 1920 in Piatt Co, with wife Grace and one child age 10 and another 2 and 3/12.
In 1930 he is in St Joseph Co MI, with Grace and 3 children.
Alva also registered for WWII, living in Elkhart IN. A person who will always know his address is listed as, Vera Clark Jones Mich. That may be Vera Clark in Jones, Michigan. He did have a daughter Vera, born about 1910. Alva was 51, born in Effingham Co IL.
