Hello Fellow Bourbon County Researchers!
I have in my possession my Grandmother's, Edna (Cowan) Turner, little 5-year diary. In it she mentions her family, dates with my Grandpa, and work. She also notes several births, marriages and deaths which I figure HAVE TO be of interest to SOMEONE! So I post these entries here as she wrote them. I hope they are useful.
1 Jan 1937: Ruby Wittsell of Stark, KS. and Verlin Riley of Uniontown, KS. were married today.
2 Jan 1937: Fred McKean of Bronson has joined the army. stationed at Ft. Mead, South Dakota.
7 Jan 1937: Violet Rife of Grandview, Mo. was killed by a train in K.C. She used to live in Bronson.
9 Jan 1937: Julia Pitts, once of Bronson, now of K.C. married Millard William Jones. Good for her.
19 Jan 1937: Mr. Bert Cash was burried today.
23 Jan 1937: Bud Shull’s birthday today. Oh!!!
31 Jan 1937: Melvin Grimes of Ft. Scott and Helen Zillox are married.
3 Feb 1937: Ben Bulla, Bill’s dad was burried today.
6 Feb 1937: Aunt Ollie died about 2 o’clock this morning.
9 Feb 1937: Aunt Ollie was burried in the Mason Cemetery today.
15 Feb 1937: Lester and Martha Ramsey have a baby boy.
20 Feb 1937: Heard Kenneth Holeman and Elizabeth Ann Berry of Bronson were married. Married December 22, 1936. Kept it a secret.
25 Feb 1937: Got Nadine Busby’s wedding announcement today. She lives in Modesto, California.
3 Mar 1937: Heard Chelden McKean of Bronson and Lena Bernice Hill of Highland, Ks. were married Jan. 31.
11 Mar 1937: Heard Louise Howard and Max (Chick) Banta of Bronson were married Feb. 22.
25 Mar 1937: Max McKean has reenlisted in the Navy.
29 Mar 1937: Dwight Winship and Blanche Russell are married.
8 Apr 1937: Marie Wolf and Harold (Diamond) Ramsey are married.
13 Apr 1937: Mary Rosamond Keeney in Wichita hospital with a baby. Check Shull’s. She’s awfully bad.
14 Apr 1937: Got a letter from Aunty Joe. Aunt Nan Grubb of Quincy, Illinois died April 6, 1937.
15 Apr 1937: Check Shull’s baby burried in the Woods Cemetery, Redfield Monday.
16 Apr 1937: Esther Miller and Winfield J. Cokeley of LeRoy, Kan. are married.
26 Apr 1937: Mrs. Dude Kirker was burried yesterday.
4 May 1937: Little Elmer Tuggle (Owen Kastle) of Bronson and Carrie Daughty of Moran are married.
7 May 1937: Claudia Keith and Paul Gill of Illinois are married.
8 May 1937: Louise McReynolds of Uniontown and A. J. Womelsdorf of Mapleton are married.
9 May 1937: Check Shull and Mary Rosamond Keeney were married at Wichita the other day.
15 May 1937: Clarence Wilson’s father killed himself with a screw driver.
19 May 1937: Carl Runkle and Ida Mae Wolf are married.
23 May 1937: Lois and I went to Mrs. D. Steele’s funeral.
26 May 1937: Bonnie Hickson of Bronson and Mr. McClury of Moran are married.
27 May 1937: Gus Kerlee got killed by a live wire. We saw him.
18 Jun 1937: Alice Holt and Reuben Warren of Bronson had a church wedding last nite.
30 July 1937: Naomi Ridge of Arcadia was married to Max Fanning of Waverly, Ks. on Feb 1.
3 Aug 1937: Willa Hope of East Wall, Ft. Scott went to Woodland Park, Colorado to marry Lawrence Wolfe.
11 Aug 1937: Harold Wolf and Edith Smith of Boicourt, Ks. are married. So is Bill Turner and Dorothy Vickers of Colorado Springs.
16 Aug 1937: Lucille Entzminger and Dale Kuns of Bronson are married.
31 Aug 1937: Dorothy Comstock of Redfield and Keith Holder of Devon were married Sunday.
10 Sep 1937: Kenneth Holeman’s baby was born Aug 30th.
15 Oct 1937: Elizabeth Brown of Redfield and Boyd Schwalm of Ft. Scott announced their marriage. They were married Aug 1.
16 Oct 1937: Roy Van and Neva Ramsey are married.
18 Oct 1937: Tom Likely of Bronson and Nellie Scribenger of Kansas City were married Sunday.
31 Oct 1937: Helen Cowan was killed in auto wreck near Hume, Mo last nite.
21 Dec 1937: Marguerite Mosier of Uniontown and Harold (Bob) Kerney of Redfield were married Sunday.
23 Dec 1937: Garland Wittsell and Mabel Ramsey of Uniontown are married.
18 Feb 1938: Iva and Earl Wittsell have a baby girl. Eunice Ready and Hazel Bill Van Arsdale of Redfield have been married since Jan. 15. 1938.
21 Feb 1938: Esther Mosier’s baby, Helen Ruth was born Sunday.
28 Feb 1938: John Stark and Noah Zaugg of Uniontown, Ks. died today.
4 Mar 1938: Ellen Hickson of Bronson and Howard Sherman of Iola are to be married tomorrow.
17 Mar 1938: Fern Strohn of Redfield and Elmer Baldwin of Chicago are married.
7 Apr 1938: Charles “Shorty” Howard of Bronson and Adda Ruth Studley of Springfield, Missouri, are married.
12 Apr 1938: Cheldon McKean’s baby was born March 31, 1938.
14 Apr 1938: Maurine Shore of Uniontown and Elizabeth Brown Swalm of Redfield have baby girls.
17 May 1938: Junior Whitmore and Flora Nell Hickson of Bronson have been married since March 12, 1938.
23 May 1938: Dude Kirker (Martina Dad) died Saturday.

2 Aug 1938: Ellanora Vodrey of Fulton and Lloyd Lorraine Meeks of Mapleton are to be married Sunday.
8 Aug 1938: Ray Holt of Uniontown and Anna Belle Hall of Ft. Scott were married Sunday.
19 Aug 1938: Glen Griffith’s funeral was Sunday. Elza Howard of Bronson and Exales Ainsworth of Milnesand, New Mexico are married.
22 Aug 1938: George D. Shull (Bud) and Lula (Dude) Beaman are married.
29 Aug 1938: Sonny told me that he and Ruth Burger of Chico, California were married New Year’s.
20 Sep 1938: Dora Wilson’s birthday.
26 Sep 1938: Jerry Abbott and “Shine” Vernard Burt were married yesterday.
3 Oct 1938: Velta Hudson and Ed Brown of Redfield are married.
18 Nov 1938: Got a letter from Ruth Burger and she has a baby girl – Jeane Irene born Nov. 11.
6 Dec 1938: Wilbur and I took Mrs. Mason and Violet Van to Sam Mason’s funeral at Redfield.
14 Dec 1938: Bill Godman of Redfield and Frances (Molly) Reed of Ft. Scott are married.
2 Feb 1939: Aunty Joe Howerton came back for John Poore funeral. Wilbur and I got Mom, Jim and Shirley and went to Uncle Harry Van’s to see her.
14 May 1939: Violet Van, Wilbur and I went to Nevada, Mo to see Dora Wilson and Charley Shunk get married.
21 May 1939: Sarg, Wilbur and I went to Delbert Russell’s funeral.
