Hi Chris, I came across this: ------------------ Missouri Marriages, 1851-1900 Missouri Marriages, 1851-1900 Name: JOHN A. [Rev] MARTINDALE Spouse: PAULINE E. WILLIAMS Marriage Date: 22 Oct 1868 County: Grundy State: MO ------------------ This may be your John and Pauline. Keeping House and Housekeeping are 2 different things when it comes to the census, I've found. Normally, Keeping House is what wives do if they're not employed outside the home. Housekeepers are hired to take care of the house. Also, and I know this is a long-shot... is it possible that John _was_ in Lincoln and then came to Atchison? According to the actual Census dates, Lincoln was done 22/23 June 1880 and Atchison was done 29 June 1880... a 6-7 day difference. ??? or... John was actually in Lincoln during the Atchison census and Haleen (sp??) told the census taker that he was a member of the house? This might explain why his name is last in the household. Could Haleen be his wife? She and John both are marked as Married. ----------------------- I'm going to do some more digging, but this is what I came up with tonight.
