You wrote his name as Jakob. I think that is how it was and should be. His headstone says Jacob. I read a newspaper article on Nick and it said his name was Nikoli. Do you think it was Americanized by himself or by the place and people where he lived and worked? North for Kate's last name is interesting. It may be a mistake in transcript or the real deal. I have seen other forums from the Kromer family in Ohio and there is a woman named Korth. Are you related to them? Look where the M and the K are on the keyboard. Katherine, Catharine, Katrina, etc., her headstone says Kate and so does the 1880 census, she died before the 1890 census. I have read that your family line named a woman or two after her, none of the others did. Do you think it was because they had to pay for each of the letters carved? You aware there are others?
