Searching for info on the German Merchant Marines just after the turn of the 20th century. My grandfather, John Kroeger, born outside Hamburg in 1887, was enlisted and jumped ship when it docked in New York about 1910. There are no immigration records as he entered the country illegally. Any ideas of how to find information about enlistees and/or deserters?
