Lois,
I have a great great (great?) grandfather whose name was Johann and he had a son whose name was Joseph. It has been my understanding that they came through NY, NY and then to St. Louis and into Louisville, KY in the 1850's. Joseph eventually served in the Union Army.
Sound familiar by any chance? If you have any information I would be grateful if you would share it with me.

PS I understand that Joseph changed the name from Krieg to Kraig when he got married in Louisville, Kentucky. At least that is the story I have heard from my great grandmother in the 1950's.
