I just happened to run into this posting on the genealogy site.
I am a Krenz. Our family emigrated from Pozen to Faribault and my great grandfather was Adolph Krenz.
I have a copy of a typed remembrance by Frieda Gehrke, oldest daughter of Augusta Krenz and Leopold Hoffmann which begins as follows:
"In the spring of the year 1795 several covered wagons drove from the Province, Brandenburg, in an (sic) eastern direction. These farmers, among them my ancestors, wanted to settle themselves in the bottomland of the Netze river. There the Prussian King, Frederick Wilhelm, the second, had promised better land and soil than in the country which was heretofore their home. The parcel of land chosen by these immigrants was wooded land, and they had to clear it.
When they arrived in this new home, every family built a simple farmhouse of loam and field-straw.The houses were covered with straw, a house with a straw roof is warm in winter and cool in summer. This village was called "Gembitzhauland".
It then goes on to describe Johann Gottlieb and his marriage and decedents which are the ten sons and daughters that come over to the US.
Additionally, my cousin Sherley Futta and her husband Bob went to Pozen in 1998 and visited the Gembitzhauland.I have her letter describing their adventure.
email me for follow up information.
