Thomas Gotlieb/Gotlupe Kraus was my maternal grandfather. Betsey Kraus Peak is my mother, so you must be one of my distant cousins.
Thomas G. Kraus had a sister Rose who married William "Will" Hinsel; they were childless and spent most of their married life in Chicago on Keystone Avenue (now not the neighborhood it used to be).

Kraus also had a brother I remember as "Uncle Martin" who remained unmarried and was a farmer near Upper Sandusky, OH. He was born in 1884 and died in 1967, a 32nd degree Mason.

Martin was from Germany. The story goes that they met on the boat. My mother remembers stories that J. Martin would eat his meal first, and the children had what was left and that he spoke almost no English.
