Sorry for not repling sooner but I wasn't notified of your response.As to your question,we have information of owr family that starts in 1795 when the first known person of owr family (Moses Kratz) was born.He was probably born in Galicia and moved to Marmaros county in Transylvania which was at that time part of greater Hungary.Since Jews were obliged to carry family names since around 1870,I am not sure if the family name he (or his father) took was of an earlier period or was taken for another reason.There are several Jewish families that took that name which to my knoladge are not connected including a Jewish family from Germany.I found no evidence to indicate that the source of that name came to our family by a converted Christian,and no Kratz Moses is Mentioned in the "Kratz family history" book.Please e-mail me directly if you need more information.
