Thank you, Eleanor, for your prompt and generous reply. I really appreciate your posting the index to the book. I am interested in the Valentine Kratz on Page 73 you mention. I am trying to determine the background of a Valentine Crots, born before 1755 but likely in the 1840's or earlier, birth place unknown, died between 1800 and 1808, in Rutherford Co., NC, Spouse's Name Unknown. Some places he lived were Lincoln Co., NC and Rutherford Co., NC. He likely had sons named William, Jacob, and Valentine Crots/Crotts (Jr). He possibly had daughters named Catherine "Cratz" who married Samuel Liming and Elizabeth "Cratz" who married George Coon. He may have had other children as well. The Crotts name is seen in many variations in the NC records as Crots, Cratts, Cratz, Krotz, Crotz, and even one case misspelled as "Scralls". It is believed Valentine Crots was of German Palatinate background and may have been from PA. Many German immigrants from the Palatinates lived in Lancaster Co., Pa before moving on down to Western NC, especially Lincoln Co., NC He may be related to the Adam Kratz/Crotts line of Rowan-Davidson Co., NC but so far we have not found records to prove a connection. I am especially interested in this Valentine Crots and in particular, his likely son, Valentine Crots/Crotts (Jr.) who married Elisabeth Bumgarner, daughter of Jacob and Jane Last Name Unknown Bumgarner, of Lincoln Co., NC. Valentine Crotts (Jr) lived in Lincoln, Rutherford and Cleveland Co., NC and was born ca 1788 and died ca 1856-1860 in Cleveland Co., NC. If you or any other reader have information on these families, I would like to share information. I have many more details on the Valentine Crotts, Jr children and descendants. Sincerely, Dru Tiliakos Notify Administrator about this message?
