Johan vs. Johann: I'm guessing Johann may be short for Johannes, but it is just a religious name given at the time of confirmation I believe. You either get John or Joseph as a boy. I don't know if there is a significant difference between the two spellings.

As for the two dates, the 8 March is from Milo Quaife's book "When Detroit Invaded Kentucky", 1927, and is also found in the transcribed parish records. The 14 Feb date was found in the JOHANNES SCHWALM HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION 1991 Journal. I don't know its providence.
