I am a computer engineer in Bucharest, Romania, and I have some Kourkoumelis ancestors. I want to know more on them.
Here is what I presently know of my Kourkoumelis ancestors.
My maternal grand-mother is Vera Voukachinovitch (husband Basile Voukachinovitch, serb, marine captain from Taganrog, Russia, got french citizenship in 1931) born Curcumelis in 1896, daughter of Dimitrie Curcumelis and Olga (russian), and lived in Taganrog, a big commercial (grain in the 19th century) port by the Azov sea. Her father was probably a descendent of the Curcumelis who came from Greece, Kefalonia (where her family had olive orchads), much early, as merchants, escaping the turkish oppression. I also found a Dionisios Curcumelis, son of Nicolaus, in registers of the Greek Church in Taganrog, atested in 1875.
Please send a message if you know more on Curcumelis from Taganrog, or connected in any way to this.
Dan Vasilache, Ph.D.
