To all of you who are still searching, there is a gentleman who has been putting together the Kosterman lineage and has gotten it back to the boat they came over on. I've included his introductory email to me and hope you can all contact him. He has given me permission to send this on.

My name is Tom Tryber. I’m the son of Rose Mary Kosterman-Tryber. My grandfather is George C. Kosterman Jr., son of George C. Kosterman Sr., son of Johannes Kosterman, who brought his family from Holland in 1859.

I am doing genealogy family history for both sides of my family, which consists of Tryber and Kosterman. Some of the depth of lineage for my mother’s lineage goes back to the 1600’s, which includes Caulkins, Calkins, La Belle, LaBelle, Bitney, etc.

I have gathered a great deal of information on the Kostermans, but I am lacking information on the John Kosterman Sr and Albert Kosterman lineage. There was a lot of Kosterman family history in Racine. Some of the Kosterman’s were “Coopers”. “Coopers” were wooden barrel makers and carpenters. “Coopers” is not a lineage, it’s a occupation. Some of the Kosterman’s had Grocery stores, with their families participating in the running of the stores.

If you are still interested in the Kosterman lineage, I am willing to exchange some advance information, if I can get some of your family lineage information. If you are, I will send you some forms that you can use to send me your info and I will send you advance information on the John Kosterman Sr. lineage. I think you’ll find the information interesting as well as informative. All I ask is that it not be distributed to anyone, since the info has not been validated, I wouldn’t want to have someone else get this information and start using it, only to find out that it is incomplete or inaccurate. When I have completed the Kosterman history, I will be more than happy to send each person that has helped in providing info a copy of the complete history. I have about 1200 hours invested in this study, since March 2004, so I’m not looking to lead anyone astray. It has happened once on one of the other family lineage I’m working on, and I was very embarrassed, because there was an error that represented a major lineage linkage error.

In July, we visited the Racine Museum and most of the Racine cemeteries gathering up pictures, newspaper clippings, taking pictures of tombstones, etc. We plan on visiting Zion, IL, Racine, WI and Kenosha, WI to help validate information we gathered in July and broaden our scope to include the Caulkins and La Belle lineage.

You also mentioned that there might be someone else who is gathering info on the Kosterman’s lineage. I would be interested in talking with that person.

I’m interested in getting as much good (meaning valid) information as I can for the Kosterman Family History.

Enjoyed our talk today.
