My grandfather came to the U.S. from Serbia sometime before W.W.11, but his last name was spelled Kortz. There seem to be plenty of Kortz's in the U.S., but they are of Russian desent and I was told that my grandpa was a gypsy. I havn't been able to find out much about him, but I do know that his last name was changed from Koscotavitch, (spelling may not be exact) which sounds Russian to me. There is the possibility that the spelling of your name was changed also, it might be worth looking into.
