Bravo! My father served in the Navy during the Korean WAR. He began when he was only 17. He married right before he shipped out to Korea (he was 19). Upon his return, there were no parades, no fanfare -- and no jobs. He and my mom raised 6 children, and he, like many others, often had to bite his tongue at work because he had so many mouths to feed. There was no such thing as job-hopping. There was a time when he actually held 3 parttime jobs because fulltime employment was difficult to come by.
When he was in his 50s, the company for which he worked moved and he found himself unemployed -- but no longer had so many mouths to feed at home. He interviewed for a job where he was asked if he was a vet.
Yes.
What war? Multiple choice -- WW1, WW2, VietNam, Gulf War.
He handwrote "Korean War," which was not an option.
Mr. Human Resource Smart Aleck, 30 years my father's junior, said "Oh, that's wasn't a real war. That was JUST a conflict."
For the first time in his life, my dad was able to tell someone where they could put their job offer!!
