I am researching Koontz families in West Virginia, particularly Monroe (1790s), Kanawha and Nicholas counties. I am trying to sort out those Koontz people in Monroe County, first. The History of Monroe County states that John & Keziah Koontz were in Monroe early, about the time the county was formed. John's son, George, later moved to Monroe from Pennsylvania, but not much later, like 17900-1800 or so. In Monroe County, from about 1793 to 1802, was also Henry & Susan/Susannah Koontz. They way the county history is written, the two Koontz families seem to be unrelated. However, descendants of Henry Koontz reported in later censuses that their "ancestor" was from Pennsylvania. Was John (Keziah) Koontz related to the Koontz families in Rockingham/Shenandoah, VA who are descendants of Rev. John Koontz? Was he related to Henry Koontz of Monroe? Who are the descendants of John (Keziah) Koontz? I believe the history spelled his surname K-o-u-n-s, but it is spelled many different ways.
