Johan Steffan Konrat, Palatine German, got off the Charming Nancy in Philadelphia on September 26, 1737 and became John Stephen Conrad, American. He married Anna Katarina Stahlschmidt at the church on Tupelhoken creek in present day Berks County, Pennsylvania on January 26, 1742. Between 1755 and 1758 he moved his family to Virginia, present day Rockingham County. He died in the summer or early fall of 1767 in Virginia. A son, John Stephen Conrad Jr. was a captain in the Virginia militia in the Revolutionary War. The Conrad Clan by Floyd Wilmer Coffman published in 1939 by Joseph K. Ruebush company in Harrisonburg Virginia gives family history. The family name was spelled Conrad but the very early spellings differ.
