MARRIAGE: Marriage to Elizabeth was before 10 Feb 1816. Based on letter from Horace Rudisill to a Mrs. King in Florence, dated Sept. 13, 1965, George King sold land to Maurice Hunter on that date and Elizabeth his wife signed with an "X". Although Mr. Rudisill is correct on the date of the deed, the relinquishing of dower was signed 26 Aug 1818 and the deed was recorded on that date. He was administrator of a Sarah King's estate (See Prob 459, Darlington County, SC-10 Jul 1818). The connection of this Sarah has not been determined. It could be a daughter or an Aunt. It is not his wife, Sarah.

NOTE: The Capt. George King file in the collection of the Darlington County Historical Commission has two question marks questioning the accuracy of "Williams" as Elizabeth's surname. It appears that she was Widow Sexton when she married George King and comments from the TX descendants that they moved to TX because they did not like her Stanley children indicates a potential Stanley marriage too.

6. John3 WILLIAMS. He married 7. Ann GUTHERIE.

Notes for John WILLIAMS
NOTE: Possibly Butler Williams who was a member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Montgomery County, AL with wife Sarah or it could be Joseph Williams also a member of that church. The Charles Polk King Family Bible states that she was the daughter of John Williams and Ann Gurthrie Williams. THIS HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN and it appears to me more likely that she is a child of either Butler Williams or Joseph Williams.

See letter dated 18 Oct 1995. Also see FGR prepared by Mrs. Frances Oliver.

NOTE: The Kolb family history chart and the more consistent genealogical information reflects Mary Kolb as the wife of Capt. George King with children: George, Henry, William, James, Hannah, and Sarah. Horace Rudisill, Executive Director of the Darlington Historical Commission, in a letter dated 13 Sep 1965, stated that the George King (referring to Rev. George King) was the son of Capt. George.

SOURCE: See e-mail message from Ella Byrd to Bill King dated 26 Dec 2002 states that Capt. George King was a son of Henry King from Lunenburg County, VA and emigrated to SC via Granville, County, NC, Anson County, NC and to Cheraw District, SC. "As recorded in the Council of Safety Papers (Now in the custody of S. C. Historical Society, Fireproof Building in Charleston, SC) on 20 Feb 1776. George King commissioned as Captain in Colonel G. G. Powell's Regiment of Militia, St. David's Parish, on 28 Sep 1775." Virginia Oliver filed that data with the Darlington County Historical Commission, but in later letters to Horace Rudisill stated that her subsequest research confirmed that the Henry King in Lunenburg County, VA was not the father of Capt. George King and that the George King in Granville County, NC was not the Capt. George King of Darlington County. By the marks, that George King was living in VA or NC during the period this Capt. George King was living in Cheraw District, SC.
