Jacob/Jakob Kohl-Koal, Coal, Cole arrived in NY City in 1755
I'm looking for anything that will lead to Jacob Kohl (or any other spelling) who arrived in NY City in 1755 with his family of children, who included a son Jacob/Jakob b. 1743 in Germany. In an old family letter it tells of old Jacob coming across the ocean to NY City with his family of children of whom young Jacob age 12 was one.Who were the other children, when did old Jacob die and where buried, who was his wife and did she not come with him and children. No mention of her or her name in the letter. There seem to be many Cool, Cole type names very early in NY City but, so far none look right, unless I'm missing something.
When young Jacob was 20 he was given his wages for a year instead of giving his father his money to help with the large family. After saving for a year he started north with his new wife Rachel Hurse and finally settled in New Lebanon in a hut on a farm. They had 4 children, Jacob, Joseph, Esther, and Benjamin. The letter I have was written by Benjamin's daughter Charlotte Cole Chapman of Michigan.
Any and all help would sure help find the answers to the history of my Cole/Coal family back of Jacob Cole 1743-1848 buried in Mott Cemetery in New Lebanon, NY.
