Hallo,
the name "Koglin" is relatively rare. Today there are living about 1500 persons of this name in Germany, 500 in USA and 100 in Australia. It seems to be, that all of them go back to a limited area in the former
East-Pomerania, a province of Prussia, which became a part of Poland after WW II; the German population was expelled. In 1717/19 already 13 families can be detected in the villages around the small country town Bublitz (polish Bobolice). Most of them were farmers. At that time their name was usually written "Coglin", sometimes also "Kugelien", which changed to "Koglin" in the 19th century.
When after the Napoleon wars circumstances became more liberal in Prussia, many of them went away, looking for a better way of life. Especially they went into the big cities like Berlin, Danzig or the Ruhr-area or they
emigrated to America or Australia.
