Dear Brenda:
I mentioned that I have been assembling quite a little book on the story of the Danish Kofoeds and the even earlier history out of Northern Germany etc. Basis being the work of Klindt and several history books.
Finding info on the Mormon pioneer websites gave me the stuff about the ship Westmoreland and the party they handcarted West with as well. Anyhow, I have distributed about 20 copies to family and am very pleased with the amazement everyone expresses about all the political and cultural heritage that is recorded.
My costs to make this tome got out of hand with the color copying and binding and such. I may make another batch of them but wanted to offer you one of the few that I still have for the $20 plus $3.50 shipping that it's costing me. Truly amazing history. I found a lady who is originally a Kofoed now part-time genealogy consultant who has tried to get Klindt's work translated for the last several years and she has tons of stuff to share I understand. I now know of another 122 Kofed families in the Intermountain West as well as 6 Koffords and some Kofoids who went "around the horn" rather than across the plains, settling in California's Gold Rush areas near Berkley.
Another ancestor is now living in Wisconson and a descendent of the only Hans Ancher Kofoed child who chose not to go on from Nebraska, rather settling in the Midwest. I guess she attends reunions and is very active in genealogy too.
There's a Kofoed Society of sorts as well but no reunions in awhile but lots of interest in something soon.
Anyhow, if you wish a copy get back soon via my email: or call me at 801-771-3024 some evening.
