Dear Jim,
What I've learned from several cousins of my grandfather is, our Kobers came to Connecticut, beginning in the late 1840's and early 1850's. They moved from Libelsburg (sp?) near Stuttgart in Wertemberg. I do not know if that area was a long time home for the family or not. There is an old photograph my grandfather had that shows a high-pitched, thatch roof "house" that was supposedly the Kober home in Libelsberg. The first floor level was the barn. The family lived upstairs. Does you family have any ties in Connecticut or Iowa?
