So far as I know the issue abides. My father did a lot of empirical research which I have transcribed. I attach my take on the current level of knowledge (we are directly descended from this line):
There is some controversy here whether we next descend from John #5 or William #10; i.e., who was the father of the Thomas that married Margery Goodhue. Stocking had a Thomas (#21) born in 1662 to John and another Thomas (#38) born to William in 1667. The Errata said they were one and the same and gave the 1662 birth date. Dad originally had William and his detail notes never changed that but his synopses corrected it to be John, which the Errata would support. He later changed it back to William, apparently, based on a different birth date for Thomas: Dad found in the Shrewsbury death records an indication that the birth date of 1667 was correct so reverted to William as Thomas’ father. I am proceeding on the basis that John and Deborah were his parents at this point. I’ve put out inquiries to try to resolve this but so far no response. Prior genealogists are aware of the issue but their recordings go both ways. I’ve compromised: John’s son, but born in 1662/7!
I, too, would be interested in any further intelligence or comment on my approach above. I've never had any response to the above.
