The site of the Battle of Rockfish Bridge just off NC highway 11, approx 200 yards from the intersection with US 117 south of Wallace, NC.
Since I am not descended from David Knowles, I don't have data for him but John Knowles's will is still in existence. I am almost certain that a copy could be obtained from the Sampson County Historical Society. It appears to me that the data to follow David and his descendents should also be reasonably easy to follow (I'm not sure what DAR wants).
It is interesting to read correspondence from the early 1800's.People in Duplin or Sampson county would talk about "going west".If you look on a map, you'd guess that that would mean heading to Tennessee and further but in reality, families who "went west" almost invariably moved to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and on.Which brings us right back to the experience of David Knowles and his descendents -- and there you are!
